Scott McKenzie

Instructor

Scott’s Arakan journey began as a 9-year-old in the Arakan junior program. He was always a sports enthusiast, with his primary focus on soccer, followed by AFL. Through his teens Scott found himself with knee injuries, unable to play his chosen sports, stuck on the sidelines during Saturday matches, struggling mentally, physically, and emotionally. Yet each week he turned up to his Arakan lessons where his Instructors trained him around his injuries, supported him to be his best, and helped him develop his warrior mindset, which led to him achieving Yellow Belt at 17.
Scott credits Arakan with instilling in him discipline and focus, and a mental resilience to handle anything life throws at him. His instructors are mentors that have guided him in his life and helped give him the confidence and maturity to make good choices and surround himself with the right people.
Scott was drawn to teaching because he wants to help other people get the benefits he has himself experienced. Having the confidence to know that whatever situation you find yourself in, you will be OK.
Scott loves that the Arakan community welcomes everyone, regardless of age, or perceived challenges. Every student’s journey is deeply personal and supported as equal to others. Everyone is encouraged to grow and be their best. Students are encouraged to turn up to train, and train for each other.
Scott is honest, hardworking, and adaptable. He is comfortable structuring lessons for adults, teenagers, children, and students with special needs. Scott believes that a warrior mindset is the best investment you could give yourself or your children.
When he is not training or teaching, he can be found at the gym, AFL games, or enjoying time with friends and family.

Student Testimonials

I have been training with Scott for a few months now and he is an incredible trainer. He takes the time to understand how each person learns and tailors his teaching skills to suit. Scott is extremely patient and understanding, as a single mum there have been many times where I've had to bring my child to training who has special needs. When my son wanted to join in the lesson, Scott included him and helped him to train alongside me. Scott is a very warm and welcoming person and has helped to build my confidence in both myself and my training skills. I cannot thank Scott and the Arakan team enough for not only the training they provide, but the family feel also. I highly recommend Scott and the Arakan team to anyone who is wanting to gain confidence and learn self defence skills.

"Thank you so much for the wonderful Arakan activity on Asia Day. Your boys/young men are so wonderful with the kids.

It is amazing how many of the girls love the activity! Nearly all of them said that it was not long enough!

Thank you again. We really appreciate it!"
