Josh Grimsey

Josh always had a keen interest in fitness and sports and began training Arakan in 2000 when he was still in high school. Josh was always passionate about Arakan and used to cut school to attend training.

Josh rapidly developed a passion for Arakan and decided he wanted to create a career becoming an Instructor and impart this amazing art to others. He has the ethos of student first, becoming a true warrior, always turns up and trains hard.

He is passionate about self development and loves sharing his knowledge with others and watching them achieve their training goals. Josh is one of the fittest guys in the club, eats clean and has s firm training ethic, instilled with dedication and focus, that his students greatly benefit from.

Josh is one of the highest exponents in the club, is inducted into the Instructor Hall of Fame and attributes his greatest Arakan achievements to teaching this art to others and grading his Green Belt in 2012. Josh believes that with focus, discipline and the right knowledge, one can become the best version one can be.

Student Testimonials

I have been an Arakan Martial Art student for 14 years and have been highly fortunate to have Josh Grimsey as my Instructor for my entire journey. Josh himself is a brilliant Arakan practitioner whose own mastery, drive and talent for the art naturally inspires and rubs off on the student. As a teacher too, Josh is a master. For 14 years, he has consistently shown up with vitality and enthusiasm, willing to focus completely on the lesson and my needs on the day. He bestows discipline with a happy and compassionate nature, driving when he needs to be and extremely patient otherwise.

As with life, Arakan Martial Art is a journey with growth and plateau, growth and plateau; having a consistent and committed Instructor like Josh Grimsey has helped keep me on the journey through thick and thin. As such, I have been able to make progress, learn about myself, learn about life, and learn about this martial art from ancient Burma.

Josh Grimsey is my Instructor, my coach and, through my training, a fine friend. I am grateful to him and to the Chief Instructor Rob Kyaw and the club they run. It's a brilliant organisation to be a part of.

I highly recommend Arakan Martial Art and Instructor Josh Grimsey to train you, grow you and give you great energy and confidence in your life.

My name is Gared Clarey, 8 years ago I received a call from Josh grimsey inviting myself to train privates with him.
From day one my training changed the way I saw the world feeling empowered and confident in myself from the few strikes that where shown to me, knowing I could protect my family and myself I was hooked ,I couldn't stop talking about how awesome this art was to my work mates who thought I was mad, All I would hear from them ,mate that wall won't hit back, leave that post alone and to this day I still do it.
I thank Josh Grimsey for the amazing 8 years , going through my yellow belt all the hard times and great times and everything in between and Many more to come.
I would highly recommend training with Josh (private or group)to anyone who wants to be motivated, empowered and have a amazing out look on life.

I have had the privilege to be training and learning Arakan Martial Art with Josh Grimsey for 2 years and I am super pumped for the endless years to come.
When I very first started I was at a pretty low point if my life. I was confused, I always doubted myself and I thought the world was against me.
After these 2 amazing years of training Arakan with Josh Grimsey he has taught me how to believe in myself, to defend myself but also to actually believe it. He has taught me to be okay with making mistakes but also pushing me to learn from them.
Josh has inspired me to want to continue my Arakan journey and to set higher goals for myself through the Instructor Development Program.

His passion and commitment has really driven me to chase my dreams. I am so grateful to have Josh as my Instructor to not only learn the best Martial Art there is, but also to be able to talk to him about anything and receive any guidance I need.

I highly recommend Instructor Josh Grimsey to anyone who wants to learn self defence. It is an empowering feeling to be able to be in control and take control of any uncomfortable or life threatening situation that you find yourself in.
